I have a passion for working with children. Two years ago I worked for an education non-profit AmeriCorps program called City Year. During which I spent an average of 11 hours each day working with students in a K-8 school. Specifically, I supported in a 5th grade as well as a 2nd and 3rd grade split classroom. I was a mentor and tutor for the students through supporting the teacher in the classroom and independently leading instruction in small groups (2-6 students at a time). I gained training and experience building relationships with students, behavior management, and teaching strategies. I know a variety of educational games, ice breakers, activities, and crafts for children of all ages. I was CPR certified for this position, although I have not renewed my certification. Last year I worked for a wonderful family providing after school care three days a week and a full day Read more on snow days. I looked after three children ages 6, 8, and 12. I picked up the kids from school and drove to their home. I made sure they got a snack, finished homework, and would play with them until their parents got home. I'm currently a grad student at the Univerisity of Colorado Denver and have an internship Monday-Friday. I'm available evenings and weekends.
