Hello! I am Ashlen McNeil. I am a senior at Winthrop University, my major is Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Early Childhood. I have a passion for children and helping them learn and grow. I have been working at a daycare for over a year and have experience with children for 3+ years.

I grew up in a large family of eight children and I currently have four nephews and one niece, so I have been surrounded by children my entire life. My mother is a retired Kindergarten Teacher, my eldest sister is an English Professor, and all of my other sisters are teachers or nurses as well, so nurturing and caring for others has always been a focus in my family. I worked as a babysitter as a teen and from there branched into working in childcare, where I have worked for over fifteen years. I worked at Daniel Island Elementary for seven years, as well as nannied for several families on the island, staying on with my last family for over 5 years. I have now been a preschool teacher for the past three years. I have always found myself drawn to the same field, because of both my natural skills and my passion for working with kids. There’s something magical about the way they see the world, how they readily absorb knowledge, and the impact this job really has on shaping their lives at such a young age. While I am very tidy and organized (I make sure things are always cleaned up as I go), I am also overflowing with positivity, creativity, and I absolutely love getting goofy and messy! Outside of work, I really enjoy traveling, being outside in nature, going to the beach, gardening, reading, and spending time with my four wonderful nephews! I absolutely adore all animals and wildlife, and some of my favorite things to do in Charleston are visiting and getting hands-on with the creatures at the aquarium and the Sea Turtle Hospital, and feeding the incredible animal friends I’ve made at Magnolia Gardens. I also love to volunteer building homes with Habitat for Humanity, as well as both organize and lend a hand in so many different outreach and volunteer work opportunities through my church plant, Anchor Church, in Mount Pleasant. I babysit for so many of my current and past students who live in Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island, so often times I am booked at least a month out unless I have a cancellation.
