Hi! I'm Joy and I am an energetic bilingual (Spanish) caregiver with many years of experience across all ages, from infants to teens. I currently work part-time with a kind , loving, & smart 7 year old boy , and an adorable 16 year old non-verbal boy with autism and Down syndrome ( I have worked with his family for 17+ years) I have a B.A. in Spanish and an A.A.S. in Occupational Therapy Assistant Technology . I have previously worked here in Cleveland in the rehab dept. of nursing homes as a COTA, at Trader Joe’s , and as a preschool teacher at Mandel Jewish community center. I grew up in Portland, Oregon and I absolutely love the outdoors, metro parks, animals, music, and arts & crafts....tons of crafts! (I carry around a box of craft materials in my car at all times, and kids know me for this). I also enjoy children's books, the library, board games, and making up silly stories with kids. In addition, I still like to climb trees and play hide and seek, sing, dance, goof around, and be silly when silly is called for. I volunteered as an English teacher for K thru 6th grade students with WorldTeach while living abroad in Costa Rica for two years . I’m adventurous and tons of fun, but I don't forget to enforce rules, teamwork, sharing, respect for other kids, and cleanup . (I trained with Amy Speidel to learn "Conscious Discipline" and continue to get coached by her). Hi, I go by Miss Kristen! I graduated from high school in May of 2018. In addition I completed the Early Childhood Education program, that worked along side the preschool and kindergarten teachers. After high school I went to a community college for a year while I was an after school babysitter. I then worked at BioLife Plasma as a playroom attendant and receptionist for a year to then go back to being a nanny (full time). After that employment came to an end, I have been at University Hospitals (UH) full time for four years and love continuing to babysit on the side - such as weekends and weekday evenings! Hi! I love all kids & caring for them/helping them grow is my passion! I am the oldest of 6 kids. There has not been a time in my life where I was not around kids! I am a nursing major at Kent State & I know I will one day be a pediatric nurse. I work as a Nursing Assistant II at UH Rainbow Babies & Childrens hospital main campus (in downtown Cleveland)! I absolutely love working at Rainbow & I have happily worked there since May, 2022. I work in their float pool, meaning I go where the staffing needs are higher for that day! I am PRN, which means I schedule my own shifts every scheduling period (which allows me the flexibility to be a sitter as well)! Every scheduling period at RBC, I just have a minimum amount of hours that I am required to schedule, so as long as I meet the minimum, I can schedule as much as I would like or I can just work the minimum, allowing me this flexibility. This has given me experience as a nursing assistant caring for the kiddos on all of their units, including: the cardiac stepdown, the pediatric ICU, the child and adolescent psychiatric unit, their peds med/surg unit, the NICU stepdown, the respiratory floor, the GI/GU floor, & their pediatric hematology/oncology unit! I have trainings for pediatrics that I constantly have to stay up to date on as well. I could not say enough amazing things about Rainbow & how much I love working there! I also work at a daycare as needed (depending on staffing needs & my job at RBC) & I have happily been employed with them for over two years now as a childcare provider float.
