Hello! I have enjoyed babysitting, nannying, caregiving, and mothering over the course of most of my life. I began as a teen in my neighborhood and continued caring for children part-time while in college and working other jobs, right up until I had children of my own. My husband and I have raised four children, now adults and have flown the coop. I sincerely miss children! They are such a joy, so funny, curious, authentic, and precious. Because it was always very important to me to remain available and involved, mothering/homemaking was my main job during my children's growing years (for which I have no regrets)! I also have experience with developmentally disabled children, as I formerly worked with Easter Seals and Nolan Services. Now that I'm a young "empty nester," I find myself wanting to be involved with children again. I value a healthy lifestyle, which includes cooking and eating nutritiously, exercising, gardening, spending time with friends, and learning new things. I recently ended a caregiving job with a lady with Parkinson's, but because of an injury respite from physically demanding work became necessary. Presently I care for children on a part-time basis and have room for more part-time childcare. I also have experience caring for animals, including dogs, cats, chickens, and smaller creatures. I have babysat for many families over the years - for kids of all ages. I absolutely adore not only taking care of kids but being able to provide them with a nurturing, interactive, safe yet fun environment. Most recently, I was a part-time nanny for a sweet one-year-old girl and took care of her three days a week. In addition to making sure she was well-taken care, I helped out with housework such as cooking, cleaning/tidying, organizing, laundry and more. Post-UCLA and after another year of nannying, I left California to serve in the Peace Corps as an Education Volunteer in Burkina Faso, West Africa where I taught preschool in a rural village to over sixty-six children. I also taught English to high school-aged children and some adults on the side. After returning from the Peace Corps, I found myself back in Los Angeles where I started to teach again at a private preschool in West LA. It was a wonderful opportunity where I was able to plan and prepare incredible, creative lessons for my students. A little more about who I am - my passions include yoga, Ayurvedic medicine, herbalism and cooking. I'm also working on starting a small business so saving up for that. While I do not have any of my own children yet, I I absolutely love spending time with kids and truly enjoy encouraging them to embrace life to the fullest. After college, I volunteered at two elementary schools. Here I helped students with their assignments. I have to say that art, creative writing, and outdoor time were my favorite activities with them. I saw that many students liked expressing themselves; whether it was in the form of painting, writing a poem, or drawing with chalk on the playground. I realized that children like it when you can teach them something in a creative way! I was able to further develop my teaching abilities when I worked at Footsteps, an afterschool elementary program. Working here allowed me to work with children in groups as well as one-on-one. For example, I would work with a group of students alongside the teacher. Other times I would sit with kids individually and help them with their homework. From the end of 2012 to October 2014 I worked as a temp nanny for different families through the agency Town & Country Resources. The kids were of various ages: I watched kids from 1 to 12 years old. My responsibilities were as follows: helping with homework, taking kids to the park, doing art, playing make-believe, dancing with kids, making light meals, and generally caring for and entertaining kids. During the 2014-15 school year, I worked in classes with high school students with mild learning disabilities. Although this job was challenging, I was able to further develop my teaching skills, working both individually and in groups with these student.
