Special Needs Mentor / Companion Needed – Active, Patient, Fun Role

Kansas City Area | Part-Time | Mon–Thurs Approx. 10am–4pm (Flexible)

Looking for a dependable, patient, active male mentor/caregiver for my son, Sterling.

This is not a passive babysitting position. Sterling needs someone who can genuinely connect with him, build trust, encourage confidence, and help him engage with the world in positive ways.

Sterling is funny, smart, energetic, sensory-driven, and thrives with calm, emotionally steady people who can balance structure, patience, humor, and adventure. He does best with people who are naturally kind, observant, playful, and not easily overwhelmed.

We are looking for someone who:
• Is comfortable working with special needs children
• Can remain calm during dysregulation or transitions
• Understands that connection comes before correction
• Enjoys movement, outdoor activities, and teaching life skills
• Has good instincts, emotional maturity, and patience
• Can redirect without harshness or power struggles

Ideal activities include:
• Zoo trips, parks, trails, caves, nature centers
• Swimming, skating, bike riding, walks
• Video games in moderation and interactive play
• Practicing communication, independence, flexibility, and confidence
• Helping reduce excessive screen dependence through engagement and routine

ABA experience is preferred, but personality matters more than credentials. Experience with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, behavioral support, or neurodivergent children is a strong plus.

The right person will become an important part of Sterling’s support system and daily world. Reliability, patience, consistency, and a genuinely good heart matter greatly in this home.
