20-40 hrs Companion Caregiver / Life Skills Support Professional for Adult with Down Syndrome
Posted by Russell A. on 3/17/2026
- $25.00 per hour
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and energetic full-time caregiver/companion to support our 22-year-old son, Mac, a kind and engaging young man with Down syndrome. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships, supporting independence, and helping a young adult live an active, fulfilling life. We are looking for a minimum of 20 hours per week but could go up to 40 hours.
Mac is non-violent, easygoing, and thrives with structure, consistency, and positive engagement. He loves to read, enjoys Seinfeld, and benefits from daily activity and community involvement. This position requires outings every day, so we are looking for someone who enjoys being out in the community and creating purposeful, enjoyable experiences.
This role goes beyond supervision. We are looking for someone who can be a trusted companion and support person—someone who will encourage Mac’s independence, provide guidance when needed, and help make each day active, safe, and enjoyable.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
Background in caregiving, special education, human services, or a related field is helpful, but not required
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record
Ability to pass background and reference checks
CPR/First Aid certification is a plus
We are hoping to find someone who will not only provide excellent care and support, but who will also genuinely enjoy spending time with Mac and helping him have active, engaging, and meaningful days. This is an important role in our family, and we are looking for someone who will approach it with warmth, professionalism, and heart.
