Peggy Stewart has worked with us for over six years now, and were we not moving out of state, her job would not be ending. She is the absolute best nanny any family could ever hope for.
Peggy started with us mid-April 2011. Our son was just 2 ½ months old, and I was a very nervous first time mother who was about to go back to work. We met earlier that month at her interview, and from the moment she walked into our home, my husband and I knew she was special. There was just something about her – she has a very calm demeanor, and a very sunny disposition. And she truly is a natural when it comes taking care of children. I still remember like it was yesterday how she took off her shoes as she entered our apartment, asked where our kitchen was so she could wash her hands, and then how she asked if she could pick up Leo, who was fussing in his bassinet. As soon as she picked him up, he stopped.
Her guidance in those early months of our son’s life was a godsend. She helped us get him on a schedule, ensured he was stimulated enough and at the same time well-rested. Once he started on solids, she made him baby food from scratch, introducing him to all sorts of good, nutritious food at an early age. I am a rather picky eater, and it pleases me to no end that my son is not - I credit Peggy for this.
She took him outside every day. Peggy is a big believer in the value of fresh air, and even on cold, damp days she would bundle him up and head out for a nice walk. I think this is why our son is so very fond of the outdoors. Peggy is a naturally social person, who makes friends and connections easily. Our son was well-socialized from the get go thanks to her. Our son has made some amazing friendships thanks to Peggy.
As Leo grew up, Peggy was there to teach him new things. She potty trained him, taught him how to dress himself, how to feed himself, how to put his shoes on etc. She helped him with reading and with his writing. She was a much-needed shoulder to cry on when I suffered a miscarriage and a beacon of sanity when we went through the crazy private school application process.
Peggy makes sure that our son’s homework is always done, and reads to him every evening. He has become quite the bookworm and I know Peggy had something to do with this.
