We have a kind, precocious 11-year-old in need of an occasional babysitter who enjoys conversations about art, crafting, sewing, theater, and Star Trek. Our kid has had Type 1 diabetes for 3 years, but is very capable of managing it independently. With wireless blood glucose monitoring and wireless insulin pump, the main assistance needed is just making sure that they get an apple juice if blood sugar dips. We have a rescue glucagon pen (similar to an epi-pen) if there was ever an emergency, but we've never needed it and don't expect to. No medical experience needed (former sitters haven't had it), just a willingness to learn, just in case.
